Outline of the Project

As we approach the turning point of the 10th year after the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, the Hanshin Earthquake 10th Anniversary Commemorative Project is being promoted to reflect on the creative reconstruction after the disaster, examine it's results, express gratitude for the support and encouragement received, share our thoughts on the earthquake with people all over the world, and take a step towards the future.

1.  The intentions and goals of the Commemorative Project

(1)  Passing on the experience and lessons

Turn our thoughts to the memory of the loss of precious lives, pass on the experiences and lessons of the disastrous earthquake, and contribute to the construction of a safer and more secure society.

(2)  Gratitude from the heart

Expressing gratitude for the support received both from within the country and abroad during the recovery and reconstruction.

(3)  Confirmation of effort and encouragement

Look back on the path we traveled, assemble the results of our efforts and pledge to continue our work for the future

(4)  Propagation of leadership approaches

Inform the nation and abroad of the approaches which lead to a new society that sprung up during the reconstruction.

4.  Venue

In principle, the disaster-stricken area (10 cities / 10 towns)
* Projects carried out outside the disaster-stricken area which follow the principles and goals of the commemorative project are also included.

5.  Executing and promoting bodies

(Executing bodies)  Prefecture , Cities and Towns in the disaster-stricken area, NPO / NGO, Organizations, Businesses
(Promoting bodies)  Hanshin Earthquake 10th Anniversary Commemorative Project Promotion Conference

6.  Project formation

Various groups or bodies will organize and execute a wide variety of projects from the international level to the community level.

  • 1) Projects that express mourning for the victims of the earthquake
  • 2) Projects that propagate the experiences and lessons of the earthquake
  • 3) Projects that express gratitude for the support received
  • 4) Projects that show the results of the reconstruction
  • 5) Projects that promote a "Creative Citizens' Society" through participation and cooperation

7.  Project development policy

  • 1) Commemorative projects in which various bodies plan, execute and participate
  • 2) Commemorative projects which further the growth of seeds grown during recovery and reconstruction
  • 3) Commemorative projects in which residents of the disaster-stricken area are the main participants
  • 4) Commemorative projects that pass on messages
  • 5) Commemorative projects in which the creativity of each group is displayed

8.  Support for the 10th Anniversary Commemorative Project

Regarding projects registered with the Hanshin Earthquake 10th Anniversary Commemorative Project Promotion Conference by executing bodies, the committee will conduct publicity activities and provide project subsidies to backup the execution of projects.

(1)  Publicity activities

Publicity through pamphlets, a project newsletter, Website (Homepage), etc.

(2)  Project subsidies

Projects eligible for subsidies

  1. Projects that comply with the principles of the Hanshin Earthquake 10th Anniversary Commemorative Project
  2. Projects that have a wide participation beyond the members of its executing body
  3. Projects with a total cost of more than \1,000,000 (Independently Planned Projects)
    However, regarding projects with a total cost of more than \300,000, it is possible to put together a number of projects to make a project of over \1,000,000.

* Cooperatively Planned Project: Project in which the prefecture and cities and towns in the disaster-stricken area participate in the executive committee
* Independently Planned Project: Project executed by various groups
