The Emperor of Japan's Address (Summary)
I wish to express my sincerest gratitude for the great efforts of the people of the prefecture, and to the government institutions that supported those efforts, the enormous number of volunteers who gathered from all over the country, and also for the cooperation from abroad.
With the passing of 10 years since the earthquake, I hear that the ratio of people in the earthquake-stricken area who did not experience the earthquake is growing. We should never forget the enormous tragedy of the earthquake. We should pass on to the people of our country and the people of the world the reality of such a disaster so that we will work to construct a safe society which will protect as many people as possible from unexpected disasters. I pray that you will continue to endeavor even more in your work in order that the many lives of those who were lost in the earthquake may have been lost in vain. With these words I wish to close my memory ceremony address.
