Memorial Walk
The "January 17th Hyogo Memorial Walk 2005" was held as not only a walk along the Yamate-kansen Road which was used as an escape and aid delivery route when the earthquake happened, but also to relive the situation when the transport system was paralyzed after the earthquake, as well as to renew interest in disaster reduction which tends to wane, to strengthen the volunteer and NPO movement which grew from the earthquake and to pass on the messages of what was experienced and learned from the earthquake and our gratitude to people at home and overseas.

Yamate Fureai Road Walk
While remembering the earthquake, a walk was held along the Yamate Fureai Road (Yamate-kansen Road) which is being developed as a route for escape and supplies in times of emergency to HAT Kobe (Kobe East New Urban Center) the venue of the "Memorial Ceremony"
The walk had both east and west routes. The east route was a 15km-walk from Nishinomiya City Hall, and the west route a 10km-walk from the Prefectural Sports and Culture Center. There was a total of 5 courses with 4,1504 participants gathering at the departure venues.
An outdoor cooking (for disaster victims) scene
Exchange Plaza
A ministries and government agencies exhibition was held for "Disaster Reduction and Volunteer Day", and also a panel exhibition of the activities of NPOs and United Nations related organizations. Groups from around the prefecture conducted outdoor cooking (for disaster victims), etc.
"January 17 Messages" were introduced from around the nation and the disaster-stricken area. A "Memorial Board 'From Hyogo" was also set up.

To increase awareness of volunteer activities and independent disaster reduction organizations and to strengthen preparedness disaster reduction drills were carried out and an exhibition of specially equipped vehicles for use in times of disaster was held

Cheer-up Stage Performances
Concerts were given by musicians and local amateur bands who gave performances to cheer up people in the disaster-stricken area after the earthquake.
